How to Apply for a Library Card

A Petersburg Public Library card is free to any person living in the Commonwealth of Virginia.   Armed services personnel and their dependents who are currently living within the Commonwealth of Virginia may receive a library card at no charge.  Residents of Chesterfield County, City of Colonial Heights, and areas served by Appomattox Regional Library System (Dinwiddie, Prince George, Hopewell, and Disputanta),  may also receive a Petersburg Public Library card at no charge.

Details and Requirements

Residents may receive a library card regardless of age. Children under 18 may obtain their own card with their parent’s permission.  All adult applicants must furnish photo identification verifying their name, address, city, and state. If photo identification does not have current address, then additional documentation regarding address must be provided.  Library cards are good for one year and may be renewed at that time.
